Position Description
The role consists of working with the Product Development teams to develop new Controls strategy/Logic for product designs in accordance with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and relevant SOM guidelines from concept through to full product launch.
Working closely with the Engineering & Application teams to modify the standard products control strategy/ logic in line with customer requirements, including conducting technical studies, feasibility assessments, and controls validation to fruition and support changes to the current product.
Key Responsibilities
- Experience with PLC or microcontroller technology and IEC61131 programming languages.
- Computer literate with understanding of structured software design and text-based programming (e.g., C based languages, JavaScript, HTML5 etc.).
- Knowledge of closed loop control systems and methodology - especially PID.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Appreciation of the requirements for developing ergonomic display and web based user interfaces (e,g., HMI, SCADA, touch screen etc.).
- Good knowledge of the fundamental principles of electronics and experience working with electrical systems.
- A basic understanding of mechanical systems and the fundamentals of thermodynamics.
- A basic understanding of serial communication protocols including Modbus, BACnet and Ethernet TCP/IP.
- A desire to pioneer new and innovative solutions with "outside the box" thinking.
- Must be able to work on projects autonomously, be self-motivated and able to take initiative.
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards problem solving.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Previous experience in industrial automation, especially with HVAC or BMS specific controls systems (Carel, Siemens, TREND, Tridium etc.).
- Understanding of building management systems (BMS).
- Appreciation of datacenter HVAC applications and products, especially Chillers, CRAH, CRAC, CDU and FWU.
- Familiar with international electrical standards such as ISO and IEC, as well as statutory requirements for CE and UL product certification.
- Knowledge/understanding of PLC controllers.
- Experience with HVAC application and knowledge of cooling and heating systems.
- Ability to source appropriate components.
- Ability to work pro-actively, using own initiative.
- Be able to produce high quality accurate information with good attention to detail.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Must be able to innovate and be able to support ideas through to implementation.
- Strong team working skills.
- Have good written & communication skills.
- Experience of the following software:
- Electrical CAD Software (i.e. Promis-e / AutoCAD Electrical)
- AutoCAD (2D Modelling)
- Solid Edge (3D Modelling)
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
