Position Description

In this role, you will have a critical support role in our Advanced Thermal Systems team, as we work closely with our customers to define the future of commercial electric vehicles.  The Commodity Manager position supports our Advanced Thermal Systems business serving Bus, Truck and  Specialty Vehicle will be report to the Procurement Manager – China, Advanced Thermal Systems (ATS).

The Commodity Manager is responsible for the entire procurement process from source selection to contract implementation, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system data maintenance, new supplier identification, portfolio optimization and engagement in the development and implementation of the Commodity Strategy.

Key responsibilities for this position will developing supplier relationships, supplier follow-up, providing suppliers forecasts, negotiating and implementing pricing strategies, negotiating and implementing Terms and Conditions, managing Modine/Supplier Open Items Lists, following-up on open items, communicating and resolving supplier concerns, onboarding new suppliers, language translations between English speaking Modine employees and China based suppliers.

The Commodity Manager will be responsible for multiple commodities including compressors, heaters, pumps, electric fans, valves, power distribution units, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA), refrigerant lines, coolant hose assemblies, and may have additional commodity responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

•      Lead supplier evaluation, selection, and sourcing for assigned commodities

•      Support function for new product launch initiatives while developing and implementing cost reduction and sourcing strategies to meet program timing, cost, quality, delivery, and strategic objectives

•      Develops/implements supply base management strategies both regionally and globally that lead to lowest total cost in terms of quality, lead time, delivery, service and unit cost

•      Facilitate VA/VE activities in order to drive product cost savings and process improvement initiatives to achieve budget performance

•      Prepare, negotiate, implement and manage purchasing agreements including pricing, terms and conditions

•      Identify critical supply disruption points in upstream value chain and formulate an effective strategy for mitigation

•      Develop an understanding of and insight into the market for the commodities assigned; including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, lead-times, technology and manufacturing capability of company suppliers and suppliers in the market that best meet expectations and objectives

•      Manage the supplier onboarding process

•      Facilitate RFI’s and RFQ’s for new product programs and other sourcing initiatives.

•      Manage ERP pricing updates

•      Support escalations as needed with suppliers

•      Support the extraction and consolidation of key functional performance metrics

•      Partner with Product Managers to perform ongoing price benchmarking to ensure market competitiveness

•      Work cooperatively with Supplier Quality Engineering, Product Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to assess the quality capabilities of new and existing suppliers to ensure that all product/material purchases meet defined quality standards.

Required Education & Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree majored in Engineering or equivalent. MBA desired.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills (Mandarin and English).
  • Strong inter-personal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects effectively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vehicular industry business practice

EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred candidates will have experience in the following disciplines: Procurement/Strategic Sourcing/Supply Chain Management
  • Minimum 7-10 years working experiences in purchasing field in the automotive or related industry

Working knowledge of electrical components and complex assembly commodities preferred.
