The Senior Quality Manager - New Product Introduction (NPI) is responsible for leading all quality planning and quality engineering activities associated with new product development and launch programs. This position serves as the primary Quality representative within cross-functional product development teams and is accountable for ensuring quality requirements, risks, and deliverables are effectively managed throughout Modine's stage-gate product development process.

The role provides independent assessment of product, process, supplier, and manufacturing readiness while ensuring quality considerations are appropriately represented during development reviews and launch decision-making. Through proactive risk identification, structured quality planning, and cross-functional collaboration, the Senior Quality Manager helps ensure products are launched on time, with robust manufacturing processes, capable suppliers, and exceptional customer quality performance

Key Responsibilities

NPI Quality Leadership & Stage-Gate Governance

  • Serve as the primary quality representative for assigned New Product Introduction programs.
  • Lead all quality planning and quality engineering deliverables throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Ensure completion of required quality activities and deliverables at each stage-gate milestone.
  • Assess product, process, supplier, and customer quality risks and communicate readiness status during gate reviews.
  • Provide independent quality recommendations regarding progression through development and launch phases.
  • Drive accountability and closure of quality-related open items prior to launch approval.

 

Design Quality & Risk Management

  • Participate as an embedded member of product development teams, representing the voice of quality throughout design and development activities.
  • Facilitate Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Risk Reviews, Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) development, and Design for Quality (DFQ) activities.
  • Ensure historical quality lessons learned, warranty data, and field performance feedback are incorporated into product designs.
  • Partner with Engineering to identify and mitigate design risks early in development.
  • Support development and execution of Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R) and validation strategies.

 

Manufacturing Readiness & Process Quality

  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Plant Quality teams to ensure production processes are capable and launch-ready.
  • Lead or facilitate Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, and process validation activities.
  • Ensure quality requirements are incorporated into manufacturing processes, inspection plans, and production documentation.
  • Support manufacturing readiness reviews and launch preparedness assessments.
  • Coordinate quality activities associated with prototype, pilot, and production builds.

 

Prototype, Pilot & Launch Support

  • Provide hands-on quality support during engineering builds, prototype builds, pilot builds, and production launch activities.
  • Monitor build quality performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead investigation of build issues, nonconformances, and launch-related concerns.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and validated prior to production release.
  • Support transition of products into normal production and operational ownership.

 

Quality Metrics, Reporting & Readiness Reviews

  • Develop and maintain NPI quality scorecards and launch readiness metrics.
  • Track quality risks, open issues, corrective actions, validation status, supplier readiness, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Present quality status, recommendations, and risk assessments during program and leadership reviews.
  • Provide clear visibility of launch risks and mitigation plans.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Quality Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, or related technical disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting new product development, product launches, or quality planning activities.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • DFMEA
  • PFMEA
  • APQP
  • PPAP
  • Control Plans
  • Process Validation
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Experience leading complex cross-functional projects and influencing teams without direct authority.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, project management, and risk management skills.
  • Demonstrated success supporting product launches in a manufacturing environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in data center cooling, HVAC, refrigeration, thermal management, or complex electromechanical products.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Manager (CMQ/OE), or similar certification.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) certification.
  • Experience operating within a formal stage-gate product development process.
  • Experience launching products across multiple manufacturing locations.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, welding, brazing, refrigeration systems, heat exchanger manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, and final assembly operations.
  • Experience supporting global product development and launch teams.
