Position Description
Modine Manufacturing Company in Racine, Wisconsin is hiring a Senior Welder/Fabricator to work first shift supporting our Tech Center team. This position is on-site 5 days per week.
This position will be responsible for fabricating, fitting, and welding metal components to produce parts, assemblies, and finished products according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This position requires proficiency in reading blueprints, CAD drawings, operating fabrication equipment, and performing welding and brazing processes safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, engineering drawings, work instructions, CAD drawings, and customer specifications.
- Layout, measure, cut, fit, align, assemble, and weld metal components to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform MIG, TIG, stick welding, and brazing operations as required by product specifications and repair needs.
- Fabricate custom components, frames, fixtures, test support parts, and assemblies using carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other materials.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment such as saws, drills, grinders, press brakes, shear machines, milling machines, and waterjet.
- Grind, polish, finish, and clean welded assemblies to meet appearance, quality, and functional requirements.
- Inspect completed work for weld quality, dimensional accuracy, alignment, structural integrity, and compliance with specifications.
- Modify, repair, and improve existing components, fixtures, and assemblies as needed.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, production, test operations, supervisors, and internal customers to resolve fabrication issues and meet project requirements.
- Maintain welding and fabrication equipment, perform routine preventive maintenance, and document repairs or modifications as required.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, environmental requirements, and housekeeping standards, including maintaining an organized 5S work area.
Required Education & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience. Completion of a welding, fabrication, manufacturing, or technical training program is preferred.
- 8+ years hands-on welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing, industrial, maintenance, or technical environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, engineering drawings, work instructions, and dimensional requirements.
- Experience using CAD software to create, modify, or interpret fabrication drawings and layouts is preferred.
- Proficiency in MIG welding, TIG welding, and brazing.
- Ability to safely operate common fabrication tools and equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to use measuring tools including tape measures, calipers, squares, levels, gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Basic math skills and understanding of dimensional tolerances.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in a team environment.
- Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and meet quality and schedule expectations.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, and work in fabrication positions throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as required, with assistance for heavier items.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing or shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, sparks, fumes, dust, and moving equipment.
- Ability to wear required PPE including welding helmet, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, protective clothing, and safety footwear.
