Position Description
The Customs Analyst is responsible for reviewing and verifying import/export documentation for shipments entering the US and Mexico. This role ensures compliance with customs regulations, confirms the accuracy of declared values, classifications, and country of origin, and validates that appropriate duties and tariffs are applied.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough US and Mexican Customs entry audits
- Audit for valuation, classification, quantity, preferential treaties, provisional duties (232, 301, IEEPA, reciprocal, etc.), antidumping and countervailing duties, and any other tariff and non-tariff related regulations for Mexico and the US.
- Complete prior to the entry summary (US)/consolidated filing (MX) deadlines
- Instruct brokers to make corrections as necessary
- Approve final entries
- Review new and existing purchased material and finished goods tariff classifications and update ERP and A24-C systems as required.
- Support and advise service providers (Customs brokerage, bonded warehousing and software) as needed
- Attend internal and external audit visits related to trade compliance.
- Develop and maintain US and MX Customs brokerage key performance indicators
- Oversee transfer and inventory control of fixed assets and production equipment
- Monitor US and MX Federal Register and trade related news feeds and provide information to Modine Corporate Trade Compliance team.
- Support US Customs valuation reconciliation programs for maquiladora plants
- Develop and maintain work instructions related to import and export operations.
Required Education & Qualifications
Knowledge in the following:
- Customs Law, Regulations and Rules (Mexico and USA)
- Tariff classification of goods (Mexico and USA)
- Tariff and non-tariff regulations (Mexico and USA)
- Preferential and sectorial programs (IMMEX, PROSEC, REGLA OCTAVA)
- International treaties (USMCA)
- Inventory control management in accordance with Annex 24 of the RGCE (MX)
- Experience in key modes of transportation (LTL, truckload & specialized equipment)
- Experience in international logistics (air & ocean)
Skills:
- Bilingual English – Spanish
- Bachelor degree in Customs or related preferred
- 3 years of experience
- Experience in Maquiladora Industry
- Good communication skills
