Position Description
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager is a strategic technical leadership role responsible for driving Design for Manufacturing (DFM) excellence across the manufacturing location. This position ensures that manufacturing processes are optimized for efficiency, quality, and scalability, while embedding core technical competencies and fostering cross-functional collaboration between engineering and operations.
Key Responsibilities
DFM Leadership & Strategy:
- Champion DFM principles across product development and manufacturing teams.
- Lead early design reviews to influence part geometry, material selection, and joining methods for optimal manufacturability.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive DFM playbook including best practices, lessons learned, and standard guidelines.
- Collaborate with design engineering to ensure manufacturability is considered from concept through production.
- Drive initiatives that reduce complexity, improve assembly efficiency, and minimize cost and risk.
- For product targeted for production at multiple locations provide input and guidance to align with consistent manufacturing processes across the production facilities while looking at opportunities to optimize equipment capacity.
- Evaluate and promote the adoption of new manufacturing technologies to enhance production capabilities and reduce costs.
- Lead manufacturing feasibility studies for new product introductions (NPI) to ensure a smooth transition from design to full-scale production.
Site-Level Responsibilities:
- Mentor and develop technical teams in core manufacturing processes such as assembly, testing, stamping, forming, and welding.
- Drive continuous improvement through process audits, root cause analysis, and corrective actions using a structured approach.
- Support capital equipment specification and procurement with a DFM lens.
- Oversee product and process development activities, ensuring alignment with global standards and risk management protocols.
- Approve change requests (CRs) and internal deviations as applicable.
- Work with facility ME Managers to develop and manage the capital expense (CapEx) budget for new manufacturing equipment and process improvement projects.
- Ensure all manufacturing processes and equipment adhere to environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards and regulations.
Regional Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with design teams to ensure products are optimized for manufacturability.
- Driving DFM principles early in the product development cycle to reduce cost, complexity, and production risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support strategic manufacturing initiatives across North America sites.
- Standardizing best practices across teams and locations
- Collaborate with sourcing and supply chain teams to inform make-or-buy decisions based on manufacturability, cost, and strategic fit.
- Implement and support process auditing strategies to ensure compliance and performance.
- Partner with the Quality organization to establish robust process controls and inspection methods, reducing defect rates, and improving product quality.
Standard Work & Cadence:
- Participate in regular technical mentoring sessions and process development meetings.
- Lead launch reviews and product/process development reviews.
- Track and report metrics related to DFM impact, launch performance, and process capability.
- Participate to Gate reviews
- Be proficient with manufacturing process documentation creation and maintenance:
- Process Flow Diagrams
- PFMEA
- CP
- Work Instructions
Reporting Structure:
- This role will reports solid-line to Global Director of Manufacturing Engineering
Required Education & Qualifications
BS in Engineering
o Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering Degree Preferred..
o 8+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience with time spent in a manufacturing facility desired
o Previous Manufacturing Engineering Management experience beneficial.
