Position Description
The Quality Manager reports to the Plant Manager and works with all levels of the organization to ensure the delivery of exceptional quality and performance to our customers. The Quality Manager has the authority for:
- Ensuring that quality system requirements are established, implemented, and maintained in accordance with internal and customer quality requirements
- Reporting on the performance of the quality system to plant management for review
- Leading continuous improvement efforts as they relate to internal and external quality needs
- Drive continuous improvement utilizing daily visual management tied to key process indicators
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement and manage a plant quality system that meets or exceeds customer and certification agency requirements. The Quality Manager works closely with plant and group staff on the development and management of quality specifications, test requirements and process controls. The Quality Manager is responsible for identifying and analyzing internal and external process quality issues and setting and achieving improvement targets via lean/continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure the implementation and administration of the Modine Quality System at the plant, which includes ensuring adherence to all agency and company test requirements
- Establish, monitor, analyze, and report on the major quality indicators of the plant. Develop improvement targets and plans to address/correct deficiencies
- Interface with customers on technical and quality issues
- Deliver on internal (project) and external (customer) commitments
- Initiate and participate in quality planning for the products and processes of the plant
- Supervise and direct the activities of the quality department staff
- Plan, develop, and provide training to improve technical competency of personnel
- Actively participate in and lead continuous improvement efforts utilizing lean, CI, and quality tools
- Audit the plant quality systems, processes, and products. Initiate corrective action when required
- Facilitate plant-wide corrective and preventive action and problem resolution of customer complaints, field failures, and product returns to insure prompt and effective responses
- Exercise authority to prevent shipment of non-conforming products
- Supervise and utilize Quality Department personnel to:
- Meet test specs and work requirements
- Participate and facilitate product and/or process improvement teams
- Train employees in the use of quality systems and tools
- Audit manufacturing processes
Required Education & Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Business, or one of the physical sciences preferred), plus five or more years of experience, or equivalent, in quality supervision, quality engineering, manufacturing, Corporate administration, or engineering
- Practical experience in quality system implementation and auditing, knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001 and other world wide quality management systems, and experience in establishing and implementing strategic plans for quality policies and procedures
- Must have solid project management and leadership skills
- American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification desired
