Position Description
Position Summary:
- Leverages CDI's buying power to negotiate domestic and global supplier pricing and performance contracts.
- Leads the development and improvement of CDI's procurement strategy.
- Provides strong technical leadership to the buying functions of all CDI operations.
- Utilizes sales forecasts to optimize inventory throughout CDI's supply chain.
- Develops strategic partnerships with CDI's suppliers.
- Identifies new opportunities and innovations, and guides the development of new products and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and operates a global supply chain operation that meets CDI’s needs:
- Determines the best suppliers from which to obtain required materials and products.
- Leverages CDI’s buying power to negotiate domestic and global supplier pricing and performance contracts that continually improve CDI’s Quality, Delivery, Cost and Cash-Flow performance.
- Applies purchasing and supply-chain expertise to define, implement and manage policies and procedures across all company functions and processes.
- Directs, develops and mentors members of CDI’s Supply Chain Team in the execution of their duties to insure effective operations.
- Performs all Supply Chain Team functions as required.
- Rapidly responds to all functions to correct and prevent supplier related issues.
- Performs other activities as required.
- Continuously improves the Quality, Delivery and Cost of CDI’s Supply-Chain and Function:
- Designs, implements, manages and monitors reporting systems that define current performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Leads the development of CDI’s procurement methods.
- Develops a “certified supplier” program to increase performance to our customers.
- Understands the supply chain to include our supplier’s sourcing and logistics to our operations, evaluates for opportunities and makes changes to improve performance.
- Teaches and employs Lean principles and leads Kaizen and other projects to make improvements within our operations and that of our suppliers.
- Leads the conversion from “system-generated” buy requirements to Kanban and supplier-managed inventory where appropriate.
- Develops strategic partnerships with CDI’s suppliers.
- Enables and assists in the development of new products and services:
- Sources and establishes domestic and global supply chains for raw materials, component parts, finished goods and services critical to CDI’s offering.
- Guides the organization regarding the availability of materials and products, and their quality, delivery, cost and cash flow impact.
- Identifies new opportunities and innovations, and provides input to the product/service development process.
- Works with IT and Engineering to implement new vendor selection software tools, ensuring standardization of tools throughout the company.
- Monitors and forecasts commodity costs relevant to CDI’s supply chain:
- Tracks relevant commodity costs to facilitate material price negotiations and the securing of advantageous future contracts.
- Projects costs to facilitate CDI product pricing.
- Utilizes sales forecasts to optimize inventory levels throughout CDI’s supply chain:
- Determines the inventory levels required at all phases (finished, raw or supplier-held) to optimize performance.
- Provides forecasts to suppliers as needed to optimize performance.
Required Education & Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education:
This position requires an individual who possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
This position requires a minimum of 8 years of experience in a supply chain leadership function.
Capabilities:
1. Experience devising and executing a global procurement strategy.
2. Knowledgeable of Lean/Toyota Production System (TPS) principles and will have experience leading suppliers in their Lean development.
3. Proficient at implementing supplier Kanban.
4. A proven track-record of creating and negotiating strategic supplier agreements both domestically and globally with demonstrated improvements in quality, delivery, lead-time, cost, inventory days on hand and cash flow.
5. Proficient in MS Office applications as well as in chosen company computer systems and will be capable of performing data analysis.
6. A strong verbal and written communicator, and will be capable of representing CDI in a highly professional manner.
