Position Description

This role is an important member of the Air-Cooled Applications team as we develop our supplier and customer partnerships to define the future of cooling.

The Commodity Manager leads supplier development, partnership, and sourcing activities for the Modine Air Cooled Applications vertical. Responsibilities span the entire strategic and tactical procurement process from new supplier identification, source selection, contract implementation, and portfolio optimization. The Commodity Manager will be responsible for multiple commodities including manifolds, fabricated steel components, hardware, fans and fan drives, and other related items.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing:

  • Acquire and maintain deep insight into the market for commodities assigned, including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, lead-times, technology and manufacturing capability of suppliers in the market that best meet business expectations and objectives
  • Lead supplier discovery, evaluation, selection, and sourcing
  • Facilitate Request For Information (RFI)’s and Request For Quote (RFQ)’s for new product programs and other sourcing initiatives
  • Develop and implement global sourcing strategies to meet strategic objectives as well as program timing, cost, quality, and delivery requirements.

Cost Savings:

  • Develop and implement supply base management strategies both regionally and globally that lead to lowest total cost in terms of quality, lead time, delivery, service and unit cost
  • Facilitate Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) activities and use data analytics in order to drive product cost savings and process improvement initiatives to achieve budget performance
  • Partner with Product Managers and Procurement Analytics to perform ongoing price / rate benchmarking as well as other analytical modeling to ensure market competitiveness
  • Use business analytics logic and skill to identify cost savings opportunities

Supply Continuity Assurance:

  • Support new product launch initiatives
  • Working with the supplier fulfillment team to support escalations as needed with suppliers
  • Work cooperatively with Supplier Quality Engineering, Product Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to assess the quality capabilities of new and existing suppliers to ensure that all purchases meet defined quality standards.
  • Identify critical supply disruption points in upstream value chain and formulate effective mitigation strategies

Commercial Precision:

  • Manage the supplier onboarding process
  • Prepare, negotiate, implement and manage purchasing agreements including pricing, terms and conditions, and expected supplier performance
  • Ensure ERP system accuracy in terms of part price and purchasing documents

General Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Travel ~ 25% of time.  Travel required to meet with suppliers and Modine facilities.
     

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of purchasing experience managing related components with increasing levels of responsibility in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Experience with purchasing fabricated metal and complex assembly components required. 
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of financial principles and product cost structure analysis.
  • Solid working data analytics skills.
  • History of continuous improvement responsibility with measurable results.
  • Bachelor degree in Supply Chain, Materials Management, Operations, Business Management, Engineering or other technical field. MBA preferred.
