Position Description
As an Engineering Manager - Chillers, you will be responsible for driving the design, development, and optimization of commercial chillers, with a strong emphasis on refrigeration system design. You will lead the Engineering team to deliver new product development on time while meeting both customer and regulatory requirements. This position will also be responsible for sustaining engineering managing the engineering order release process and ensuring that all products are engineered to order and released to production accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of design engineers and drafters in the design and development of commercial chillers, ensuring optimal energy efficiency and performance.
- Oversee all aspects of product design, from concept through prototyping, testing, and production readiness; ensuring on-time completion to project timelines.
- Develop and oversee technical specifications, schematics, and system designs.
- Collaborate closely with product management, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure design feasibility, performance, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Guide the application of thermodynamic, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer principles to develop energy-efficient, high-performance systems.
- Conduct feasibility studies, thermal load analyses, and system simulations to optimize cooling performance.
- Oversee testing, troubleshooting, and validation of refrigeration systems, ensuring reliability and longevity.
- Ensure adherence to relevant codes, standards (e.g., ASHRAE, UL, AHRI), and environmental regulations.
- Stay up to date on emerging refrigerant technologies and sustainability trends to drive innovation.
- Serve as Engineering Leader and technical expert for the commercial chiller business within the commercial solutions group of Modine.
- Preparation of technical data and drawings for both customers and production.
- Responsible for creating/monitoring KPIs and reporting systems that are easy to use and reduce waste.
- Participate in influential Industry organizations, e.g. AHRI, ASHRAE
- Interface with other Modine regions, manufacturing locations, and/or customers to assure a smooth transition from one region to another with global product development.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's of Science in a related engineering field with 7 + years of design experience and 5+ years of supervisory experience.
- Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and complex projects.
- Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks, SolidEdge, AutoCAD, CFD/FEA software).
- Excellent communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong fundamental background and/or experience in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and psychometrics
- 5+ years' experience specifically with chiller design is a plus
- Experience incorporating new technologies and product enhancements into product designs.
- Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders including customers, suppliers and non-technical staff.
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
- PE license or advanced certifications (e.g., LEED AP, Certified Refrigeration Professional) a plus.
