Position Description
The Quality Engineer – Plant Operations will play a key role in ensuring the manufacturing quality of chillers for data centers by monitoring, analyzing, and improving production processes. This is an on-the-floor role that requires hands-on involvement in daily plant operations, working closely with production teams to resolve quality issues, implement process improvements, and maintain compliance with industry standards. The Quality Engineer will use problem-solving methodologies to drive continuous improvement, reduce defects, and enhance overall product reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications.
- Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions (RCCA) for non-conformances and customer complaints.
- Work closely with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to improve product quality and process efficiency.
- Develop and implement quality control plans, inspection procedures, and testing protocols.
- Perform audits of manufacturing processes to identify and resolve potential quality risks.
- Support the introduction of new products by validating quality requirements and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Train production personnel on quality best practices, including effect prevention and problem-solving techniques.
- Use statistical analysis and data-driven methodologies (such as Six-Sigma, SPC) to improve manufacturing quality.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to quality metrics, defects, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with ISO, ASHRAE, and other relevant industry and regulatory standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably in HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial equipment production or strong co-op/internship experience in manufacturing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience with tools such as 8D, FMEA, RCCA, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and experience with ISO 9001 compliance.
- Familiarity with measurement tools, GD&T, and blueprint interpretation.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes such as welding, brazing, assembly, and testing.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software (i.e. Minitab, Excel, or similar).
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, on-the-floor manufacturing environment.
