Position Description
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Research Engineer within the Research and Development department working with a small team of skilled Research Engineers in the Airedale R&D Laboratory. The main goal of the team is to assess and remove uncertainty associated with new technical developments of a business focused on leading edge technologies. The main activities of the Research team involve information gathering, concept generation, detailed theoretical analysis, proof of concept (prototype) design and working with the Lab team to conduct testing for concept validation.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will work closely with the rest of the Research Team to identify and assess new technologies and concepts to improve existing or develop new products. The role requires significant resourcefulness and strong analytical skills, yet offer a good opportunity to influence product development and business decisions. Although part of the Research team, there will be some requirement to work cross departmentally and leverage knowledge and skills across the organisation.
Role Responsibilities will include
- Monitoring trade press and legislative departments.
- Conducting technical comparisons of competitor products
- Monitor and actively searching for relevant technology developments
- Analysing identified technologies, techniques or concepts to substantiate business proposals.
- Conducting theoretical analysis of new concept(s) from a performance perspective
- Where applicable the design of proof of concept prototype (s) or experiments to enable experimental analysis of proposed concept (s)
- Where applicable working with the Laboratory Engineers to conduct experimental analysis
- On completion of a project, the creation of documentation detailing the models, methodologies and outcomes, along with any associated recommendations for handover to the development team.
- Supporting the rest of the Research team with other investigations as and when required.

Required Education & Qualifications
- Trained to at least degree level in relevant engineering discipline or relevant science-based subject
- Be able to communicate effectively at all levels and cross-functionally
- Be able to work in a team and manage projects to completion
