Position Description
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Product Development Manager to work in the Engineering Department, reporting to Andrew Trickett, Business Unit Director, Indoor. This role encompasses direct responsibility for all indoor products (CRAC, CRAH, Fan Wall & Liquid Cooling), the development teams in Leeds, and design ownership for product manufactured in Bradford and Guadalajara.

Responsibilities for this role include:
Engineering Leadership:
- Lead and manage multiple engineering teams to deliver new products in line with the Product Development Roadmap, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and fully aligned with company SOM guidelines.
- Ensure product designs comply with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and directives, and support internal and external audit activities to maintain ongoing compliance across the business.
- Ensure all development projects are executed in accordance with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) requirements and relevant company SOMs.
- Support global product development initiatives by working with cross-functional teams across Modine to deliver products aligned with regional market requirements.
Stakeholder & Supplier Management:
- Collaborate with Purchasing and suppliers to identify and implement the most appropriate component technologies, improving product performance, cost competitiveness, and standardisation opportunities.
- Work with Product Managers to define key project objectives and technical requirements that provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
- Engage with key customers and Sales teams to gather product feedback and market insights, ensuring new product developments meet customer needs and market expectations.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement:
- Work closely with Operations on projects to ensure effective Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles are applied, supporting efficient production and product quality.
- Collaborate closely with the Quality team to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities, ensuring DFMEA methodologies are effectively applied throughout the development process to identify, assess, and mitigate product risks.
- Identify product line simplification and 80/20 optimisation opportunities, focusing resources on key products and strategic platforms to improve operational efficiency, reduce complexity, and maximise business performance.
- Review development processes and implement improvements to enhance team productivity, project throughput, and operational efficiency.
- Identify training and development needs within the team and implement structured development plans to support individual growth and capability building.
- Define objectives for direct reports and conduct regular performance reviews, providing coaching, feedback, and support to drive high performance.
- Develop and maintain meaningful performance metrics and reporting mechanisms to monitor team effectiveness, project delivery, and continuous improvement activities.
Required Education & Qualifications
The successful candidate should have the following skills:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in product design and development within a relevant engineering environment.
- Degree in an engineering discipline or relevant Science-based subject.
- Strong knowledge of Airedale or Modine product design, operation and system application
- Proven experience leading and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams, with the ability to maximise team performance and drive successful project delivery.
- Experience managing multiple product development projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and organisational levels.
- Experience of working within structured product development processes, including APQP, DFMEA, and DFMA.
- Good teamworking skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Good communication skills.
