Position Description

This position performs a wide range of supervisory activities. The Supervisor oversees all production within the facility. The position moves work performed by other departments through the department. The Supervisor is also responsible to contact the appropriate departments for acquisition of components needed to complete operation, writes maintenance work orders, schedules production, supports plant objectives, resolves minor labor disputes, supervises department workers in maintaining a clean work area and general housekeeping, and at times, directs clean up, maintenance, material handling, tool room, and quality assurance to employees. Lastly, the Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the continuous improvement and lean manufacturing efforts in their value stream area, including efficient production, problem solving, employee relations and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute lean tools (5S, Kaizen, root cause analysis, etc.) and procedures within Value Steam focus area to minimize process variations.
  • Execute data analysis and evaluation pertinent to quality process enhancement related to Value Stream metrics.
  • Establish production levels of heat exchanger units, meeting company quality SPC requirements.
  • Check department production needs and assure that parts are on hand for the work force.
  • Write out requisitions for materials and parts necessary for operations.
  • Write maintenance work orders for necessary machine repairs and follow up on the work order to minimize down time.
  • Resolve minor labor differences and manage the initial step involving employee complaints.
  • Accountable for meeting quality standards.
  • Maintain Safety and OSHA standards and regulations on hazardous material within the assigned departments.
  • Work closely with engineering and tooling to resolve machinery problems and ensure that manufacturing instructions are correct for all operations to resolve tooling related problems.
  • Maintain required production level in assigned area.
  • Direct work force and assignment of jobs to be performed, and best utilization of manpower.
  • Develop and maintain harmonious working relationships within and outside the department.
  • Administer work rules (handbook) in handling employment issues and discipline procedures.
  • Keep labor and material usage within departmental budget. Assign work as needed.
  • Instruct and train employees.
  • Monitor workforce to assure they are performing at satisfactory levels.
  • Provide necessary equipment and tools to safely and properly perform production jobs.
  • Monitor equipment and facility systems to ensure adequate performance and take corrective measures.
  • Inspect employee output to insure conformance with quality and quantity standards.
  • Direct others in response to emergencies, including fire or natural calamity.
  • Provide emergency care for injured or ill employees, including CPR if needed.
  • Periodic daily and weekend overtime as production schedules demand.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • 1-3 years prior manufacturing or production supervisory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree highly preferred
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Familiar with SPC methods.
  • CPR and First Aid training a plus
