Position Description
This role plays a vital part in keeping production running smoothly, troubleshooting equipment issues, developing production processes and improving current product quality. It is well suited for a hands-on person with a foundation in lean manufacturing, and process engineering. The position requires collaboration across departments to identify improvement opportunities, implement sustainable solutions, and drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze current products and processes to identify improvement opportunities for performance, cost, manufacturability, quality and safety.
- Develop various procedures, production specifications and test protocols to support the manufacturing teams.
- Partner with management to implement lean manufacturing concepts into daily processes.
- Examples include 5S, 8 wastes, standard work, value stream mapping, daily process management, kanban, process flow and other concepts that are applicable to the business.
- Utilize data driven tools to monitor performance and validate improvements.
- Work with facilities, production and engineering in specifying and purchasing capital equipment.
- Collaborate with product design, quality, and production teams to ensure manufacturability and continuous improvement of products.
- Keep documentation, drawings, and procedures up to date and accessible.
- Use CAD software to design components and systems for production, testing and design improvements.
- Support the introduction of new products and processes, ensuring smooth transitions from development to production.
- Perform back up duties for key positions in production engineering as needed.
- Undertake special projects and provide technical support as directed by Management.
- Works to meet company vision and metric goals.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset and strong project follow-through.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, process mapping, and root cause analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in CAD software; AutoCAD & SolidWorks.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
