Position Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Industrial Engineering Co-op to join our dynamic team for Modine manufacturing company at our Jefferson City, Missouri Plant from Aug to Dec 2024 (dates can be extended for the right candidate). As an Industrial Engineering Co-op, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience and contribute to various projects aimed at optimizing our manufacturing processes and enhancing operational efficiency as a part of Lean journey. You will work closely with our Operations and continuous improvement, assisting with data analysis, process improvement initiatives, and project management. This co-op position offers an excellent opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting and develop essential skills in industrial engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the lean Simplification and Manufacturing Engineering team to lead already identified improvement opportunities projects for process improvement and operational efficiency enhancements.
  • Conduct time studies, process flow analysis, and data collection to gather relevant information for analysis and decision-making.
  • Create weld fixturing and weld cell layout.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of process improvement strategies, including the design and layout of production lines, workstations, and material handling systems.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for various manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze production data and performance metrics to identify trends, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives and support lean manufacturing principles.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to identify the underlying causes of process inefficiencies or quality issues and propose corrective actions.
  • Support the implementation of new equipment, technologies, and automation systems to enhance production capabilities.
  • Help materials team on developing PFEP (Plan For Every Part) and setting up KANBAN system for simplified material and information flow. 
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings, recommendations, and project progress.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and analyze data.
  • Prior experience (1-2 years) in manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in using statistical analysis tools and software (e.g., Advance Excel).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and methodologies is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of process improvement concepts, including process mapping, value stream analysis, and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software
