Position Description
This role is responsible for managing materials, components, and supplies to support daily production schedules and customer delivery commitments. The position uses SAP to plan material requirements, execute purchasing activities, manage inventory accuracy, and coordinate with suppliers and corporate purchasing. Working closely with the Materials Manager, the role ensures material availability, supports plant capacity changes, and resolves supply issues that may impact production or shipments.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase productive and non-productive materials from an established supplier base using SAP
- Analyze material requirements to support current and future production demand
- Issue purchase orders and material requisitions, ensuring accuracy of specifications, quantities, pricing, and delivery dates
- Coordinate daily with the Materials Manager on production schedules, capacity changes, and supplier constraints
- Manage supplier delivery, quality, and availability issues impacting production or customer shipments
- Maintain inventory accuracy, including cycle counts and physical inventory activities
- Manage purchasing documentation, engineering change requests, and disposition of non-conforming or obsolete material
Required Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Business, Accounting, or a related field, OR 4+ years in a buyer or purchasing role
- 2+ years of experience in Materials Control, Purchasing, or Buying within a manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience using MRP systems; SAP experience strongly preferred
