Position Description

The Senior Designer is responsible for the development of specific designs using current technology to meet customer requirements in the most economical manner. This position reports to our Engineering Supervisor and supports our Coolers, Powers & Process vertical. This is an onsite position at our Grenada South, MS location. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assignments cover a wide range of complex 3D modeling using Modine CAD software. Exhibits complete mastery of all design issues and functions as a resource to the engineering staff and customers. May provide leadership and guidance to less experienced engineers. 
  • The Senior Designer provides 2-D and 3-D computer modeling, drawing documentation, and advanced level design support related assigned customers design activities. Support is provided on both new and existing applications using current CAD technology.
  • Effectively coordinates multiple projects simultaneously and recognizes + resolves design issues independently before they become a problem. Spearheads entire design projects with minimal input and direction. 
  • Communicates directly with the customer engineering and/or design team, Modine suppliers, and/or Modine facilities.
  • The Senior Designer will also be in charge of creating approval drawings, shop floor detailed drawings, bill of materials, upload drawings to PDM system and support the routing process.
  • Coordinates a team of other designers, drafters, and individuals
     

Required Education & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant design experience in SolidWorks working with complex electrical units
  • An Associate's degree is preferred
  • Advanced SolidWorks experience
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) clearly and concisely, including ingoing and outgoing data exchanges with internal and external customers. 
  • Advanced familiarity with design requirements, tooling, manufacturing, and assembly operations of multiple product lines to allow assignment changes with little immediate orientation and the ability to design for manufacturability. 
  • Experience in all aspects of computer modeling and drawing documentation with additional consideration to clarity of presentation and conformance to Standard Practices & Work Instructions. Advance level of experience in 3D modeling and parametric design. 
  • Experience with sheet metal modeling and detailing.
  • Must be able to design and detail electromechanical drawings from sketches with limited information.
  • Experience in handling 3D large model assemblies.
  • Advanced ability in use of computer applications such as text documents, e-mail, scheduling, Bill of Materials and routings.
  • Advanced ability in design activity with consideration to clearances, component fit and function, ease of manufacturing, safety, customer needs and expectations. 
  • Ability to write ECR and perform drawing modifications in order to accommodate production needs. 
  • Knowledge of Basic Refrigeration Systems and its components is a plus
  • Resolve design problems independently.
