Position Description
The Product Engineer reports to the Engineering Supervisor at the Franklin, WI facility for the Data Center vertical. She/he works within the Engineering Department to design, develop, document, and support daily operations and continuous design improvement of Data Center Cooling products manufactured by the Data Center team.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute assigned engineering launch activities for awarded business. This includes: completion of customer submittals with all required documentation, release of design and drawings for the product for prototype and production, successful completion of all customer and regulatory required testing for customer acceptance in the field.
- Evaluate and design electromechanical products by applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer and materials.
- Support the change request and deviation process to address immediate manufacturing concerns. Manage from conception to implementation.
- Lead Post-Launch Engineering Activities: Coordinate and execute engineering activities for design updates and manufacturability improvements in production.
- Evaluate & Estimate VA/VE Changes: Conduct preliminary design feasibility studies, technical reviews, and engineering evaluations to support VA/VE cost reductions and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) improvements.
- Collaborate with designers to develop detailed CAD models and drawings of Data Center cooling solutions
- Interface with other Modine regions, manufacturing locations, suppliers, and customers.
- Travel domestically or internationally up to 20%.
Required Education & Qualifications
The minimum requirements are a college graduate in engineering or related technical discipline with 1-3+ years engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline. The Product Engineer shall have a strong fundamental background and/or experience in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, psychometrics, and design for manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong analysis, problem solving, and communication skills and the ability to work cross functionally
- A strong mechanical aptitude and good mechanical background
- Prior experience with heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, or other HVAC industry experience, including cosmetic or structural sheet metal design
- An understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA)
- A continuous improvement (CI) mindset and familiarity with Lean Manufacturing
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD systems and the ability to interpret FEA & CFD results
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Familiarity with Engineering Change Request and Change Order processes
- Safety-First design ethics with a commitment to reducing workplace hazards through design
