Position Description
The Engineering Supervisor reports to the Engineering Manager. She/he works within the Engineering Department to lead the continuous design improvement of assigned Data Center cooling products. He or she is responsible for the supervision of assigned designers and engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the sustaining engineering activities for assigned Data Center Cooling Systems. This role focuses on new plant launches, continuous design improvements, design for manufacturing and assembly, and VA/VE cost reduction initiatives.
- Directly manage a team of 2-3 engineers and 1-2 CAD designers, overseeing assignment of projects and progress of work. Set clear expectations, assign tasks, and ensure the team's success in delivering high-quality results.
- Release designs and drawings to production for sustaining engineering initiatives.
- Execute engineering activities for new plant launches with a strong focus on support of the supplier selection process. This includes creating RFQ design packages, supplier technical feasibility assessments, and supplier product approvals.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to identify and implement continuous design improvements. Work closely with Product Engineering to verify design improvements meet all customer and product requirements.
- Oversea the preliminary design for cost estimating and quoting for pursuit of VA/VE cost reductions. This role is specifically responsible for engineering NRE, validation expenses, and should-cost estimates for materials.
- Interface with other Modine regions, manufacturing locations, suppliers, and customers.
- Assist the manufacturing team in developing manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
- Support team member development through training initiatives, mentorship programs, and performance management. Foster a culture of continuous learning and career growth.
- Travel domestically or internationally up to 25%.
Required Education & Qualifications
The minimum requirement is a college graduate in engineering or related technical discipline with 5+ years engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, with 3+ years engineering experience. The Engineering Supervisor shall have a strong fundamental background and/or experience in HVAC technologies and design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous engineering leadership experience (2+ years)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Thermodynamics, Fluid dynamics, and HVAC Technologies
- Experience with designing products for manufacturing and assembly
- Ability to interact effectively with internal and external personnel
- Project management experience
- High level of initiative and positive work ethic
- Organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail
- Strong analysis and problem solving skills
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD systems and the ability to interpret FEA & CFD results
