Position Description

At Climate by Design, we don't just build systems; we build solutions for a better tomorrow. Building on more than 100 years of excellence in thermal management, we provide trusted systems and solutions that improve air quality and conserve natural resources. With over 13,000 employees globally, our Climate Solutions and Performance Technologies segments reduce energy and water consumption, lower harmful emissions, and enable cleaner-running vehicles and environmentally-friendly refrigerants.

If you are a hands-on problem solver passionate about electrical systems and commercial HVAC technology, we want you to join our team!

We are looking for an Electrical Engineering Technician to serve as the vital technical bridge between our Engineering team and the shop floor production staff. In this hands-on role, you will be the go-to expert for high-quality control panel fabrication, helping production teams translate complex electrical schematics into reality.

You will utilize 2D CAD software for design updates, conduct fundamental electrical engineering calculations, and perform hands-on diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and system upgrades. By ensuring safety and regulatory standards are met, you will play a critical role in minimizing downtime and driving operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interdisciplinary Liaison: Act as the primary local technical contact on the production floor, resolving real-time wiring, assembly, and component layout questions to keep the line moving.

  • Schematic Translation: Guide production assemblers and wire-routing staff in interpreting complex schematic packages, point-to-point wire run lists, and engineering drawings.

  • Panel Build Guidance: Provide hands-on technical direction during industrial control panel layout and wiring (UL 508A, NEC, 60335 standard environments).

  • Layout Optimization: Check component securing, wire labeling, ferrules, terminal spacing, and interface clearance before final testing.

  • Feedback Loops: Identify recurring manufacturing challenges and collaborate with Design Engineers to implement permanent design-for-manufacturability improvements.

  • CAD Editing: Use 2D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical) to modify existing electrical schematics, cabinet layouts, and Bill of Materials (BOM).

  • As-Built Documentation: Create and update "as-built" schematics and final package redlines to ensure manufacturing changes are accurately digitized.

  • Electrical Math & Calculations: Perform standard circuit calculations to verify key panel parameters, including:

    • FLA (Full Load Amps): Calculating system and branch circuit current draws.

    • MOP (Maximum Overcurrent Protection): Determining the proper sizing for breakers, fuses, and overload protection.

    • Wire Sizing: Standardizing conductor selections to prevent excessive voltage drops and heat buildup.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years in an industrial manufacturing environment (commercial HVAC, chillers, and industrial heat pump assembly experience is highly preferred!).

  • Education: Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, OR equivalent technical trade school/military training OR 3+ years of electrical assembly experience.

  • Schematic Literacy: Exceptional ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot using electrical ladder diagrams and wiring schematics.

  • CAD Proficiency: Hands-on experience with 2D CAD tools for editing schematics and back-plate layouts.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Ohm’s Law, electrical code requirements (NEC/NFPA 70E), and standard branch circuit sizing methods. Familiarity with industrial controls, motors, sensors, and power distribution systems.

  • Hands-On Skills: Experience using electrical test equipment (multimeters, diagnostic tools) and strong troubleshooting techniques.

  • Mindset: A strong analytical problem-solver who can work independently, communicate effectively with a team, and respond efficiently to equipment issues. Willingness to work flexible schedules, including shifts or on-call support as required.
