Position Description

The Engineering Director will oversee a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, and design engineers, ensuring the successful and timely execution of product development initiatives. This role will collaborate closely with our Product Development team in the UK to align global engineering standards, drive innovation, and enhance reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing engineering organizational strategies to support overall business growth, as well as expertise in thermal systems, HVAC/R technology, and data center cooling solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Oversee the full product development lifecycle, from concept to ideation and feasibility studies to prototyping, testing, and final production.
  • Establish and maintain engineering design standards, processes, and best practices to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in product development.
  • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless integration of new designs into production.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, energy efficiency standards, and environmental guidelines for chiller systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean tools and methods, identifying opportunities for cost reduction, performance enhancements, and product differentiation.
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and competitive advancements in data center cooling and HVAC/R solutions.
  • Work to establish and strengthen a culture of empowerment within the organization.
  • Monitor and support budget, capital, and operating plans, and drive activities required to prepare the annual operating plan.
  • Support strategic customer relationships at the executive level in alignment with market growth strategies.
  • Collaborate with Group Leadership in developing plans for the future of the company’s global business regarding profitability, market share, new products, improved customer satisfaction, and employee growth.
  • Drive the safety culture in all locations, ensuring a safe workplace for all employees.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 10+ years of experience in product development and engineering leadership, preferably within the HVAC/R, data center cooling, or industrial refrigeration industry.
  • Proven experience leading, developing, and driving cross-functional engineering teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with global product development, structured NPD processes, and lifecycles.
  • Strong financial and business analysis ability, including cost controls and issues influencing operating profitability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across a wide audience, including technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to influence people, articulate ideas, and lead cross-functional teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of chiller technology, refrigeration cycles, and thermal management for data centers preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and certifications related to chiller systems (ASHRAE, AHRI, UL, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed, up to 40%.
