Position Description
The Engineering Director for the Americas Region is a senior leadership role responsible for driving technical strategy, innovation, and execution across our data center cooling solutions. This role leads regional engineering teams and collaborates with global stakeholders to deliver high-performance, energy-efficient, and scalable cooling solutions that meet the evolving demands of hyperscale and colocation data center customers.. This role will oversee a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, design and controls engineers, ensuring the successful execution of product development, sustainment and VAVE initiatives. The Engineering Director will collaborate closely with our customers and Global Product Management team to align global engineering standards, drive innovation, and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building and developing high performing engineering organization across multiple locations and transforming engineering approach to meet new and unique market demands. The candidate will need to a strategic mindset to set technical direction and leadership skills to manage product development from concept to production. Engineering experience in thermal systems, HVAC/R technology, and data center cooling solutions are a plus.
Travel: Domestic and international travel: 40% and up to 60% for short periods
Key Responsibilities
- Transform and champion engineering processes to meet new market demands and client expectations, including robust design reviews, DFMEA, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, A3), Design for Manufacturing, Design for Reliability, Design for Aftermarket, and platform architecture development.
- Develop engineering leaderships talent that is built for scaling and future needs.
- Create a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Lead and manage a cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, and design engineers) to develop cutting-edge thermal management solutions for data centers.
- Work closely with Product Management and other regional Engineering teams to align on global product development strategies, standards, and best practices.
- Oversee the full product development lifecycle, from concept to ideation and feasibility studies to prototyping, testing, production process capability prove out, and aftermarket service plans.
- Establish and maintain engineering design standards, processes, and best practices to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in product development.
- Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless integration of new design into production.
- Ensure compliance and industry regulations, energy efficiency standards, and environmental guidelines for chiller systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for cost reduction, performance enhancements, and product differentiation.
- Stay up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and competitive advancements in data center cooling and HVAC/R solutions.
- Drive innovation in liquid cooling, air-side economization, heat recovery, and other emerging technologies to enhance sustainability and performance.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in product development and engineering leadership, preference in complex industrial equipment products with HVAC/R, data center cooling, or industrial refrigeration industry experience a plus.
- Track record of scaling and transforming engineering organizations to meet emerging or high growth market demands.
- Proven track record in developing and deploying large-scale engineered solutions for mission-critical environments.
- Proven experience leading and developing cross-functional teams for highly engineered products from concept to process prove out in production.
- Strong knowledge of chiller technology, refrigeration cycles, and thermal management for data centers a plus.
- Experience with global product development collaboration, preferably with teams in different regions.
- Strong experience in implementing and teaching Design for Reliability,Manufacturability, and Design for Aftermarket(DfR/DfM/DfA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Stage-Gate or Agile product development frameworks, as well as Root cause and corrective action (RCCA)
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to drive multiple initiatives simultaneously with or with a program management office.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and certifications related to chiller systems (ASHRAE, AHRI, ISO, etc.)
