Position Description
The Plumbing Technical Trainer develops and delivers training for plumbing maintenance and operations employees. This role ensures staff are equipped with the plumbing system knowledge, SOP understanding, and safety competency required for reliable, compliant, and safe installation, operation, and maintenance of plumbing systems. Fully onsite and hands-on, this role supports Modine’s strong health and safety culture and is ideal for experienced employees who are passionate about developing others.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver plumbing training programs using classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, and competency-based assessments.
- Develop and maintain training materials including manuals, presentations, SOPs, JHAs, system diagrams, and demonstrations.
- Provide required plumbing safety training, including hot work awareness, confined space awareness, PPE requirements, hazard recognition, and safe tool and equipment use.
- Train employees on plumbing standards, codes, procedures, and best practices related to installation, repair, and maintenance of piping systems.
- Train employees on plumbing systems including water supply, drainage, venting, compressed air, and process piping as applicable.
- Coach employees directly on the production floor to ensure proper application of plumbing techniques and adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Support troubleshooting of plumbing system issues such as leaks, pressure problems, blockages, and system failures to improve reliability and uptime.
- Provide hands-on guidance in pipe fitting techniques, joint preparation, alignment, and system testing.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, Quality, and Operations to ensure training reflects current codes, standards, materials, and equipment requirements.
- Support standardization of plumbing procedures, installation methods, and documentation across shifts and teams.
- Conduct competency checks and evaluations to confirm readiness for independent work.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, certifications, and compliance documentation.
- Update training content when materials, equipment, codes, processes, or safety findings change.
- Gather feedback from trainees and stakeholders to continuously improve training effectiveness.
Required Education & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 5 years of plumbing maintenance or industrial/commercial plumbing experience.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, tools, and installation techniques.
- Demonstrated coaching or training ability in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Solid understanding of plumbing safety standards and applicable codes.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
