Position Description
The Senior Test Engineer – works within the Engineering Department to perform testing of products manufactured by the Data Center team. This position will be responsible for the leading design, maintenance and enhancement of the laboratories and equipment. He or she is responsible for scheduling lab priorities and directing technicians work to complete setup, instrumentation and testing work. The testing support the North American Data Center market.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement engineering principles to safely achieve and maintain customer requested test conditions for various test articles with new or current test equipment.
- Develop specialized skills unique to specific test equipment to understand its operation (temperature/pressure/flow instrumentation, data acquisition and reporting).
- Working with manufacturing engineering to analyze infrastructure capabilities vs. test equipment needs.
- Troubleshoot test equipment when equipment unable to achieve desired inputs or outputs. Request quotes and justify repairs, then make arrangements to implement and document repairs.
- Maintain the test schedule for the facility, determining when tests can be performed and the required duration of the test.
- Coordinate the support for conducting customer witness tests. This may include running the test themselves or aligning the personnel to run the tests.
- Generate and maintain test equipment preventive maintenance documentation.
- With the support of manufacturing engineering and maintenance maintain test equipment for efficient use of utilities (natural gas, water, compressed air & electrical).
- Research, justify and implement new products and technology in test laboratories.
- Establish calibration needs for test equipment, approve calibration certificates.
- Write and approve test reports (limited to confirming test accuracy, correctness of test conditions to requirements) after testing completed.
- Develop test procedures, instrumentation plans and work instructions to standard laboratory practices.
- Effectively supports quality document creation and maintenance (Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Nonconformance Corrective Action Reports (NCARs), Work Instructions (WI)…) as related to the test lab.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical or electrical preferred
- Familiarity with instrumentation (temperature/pressure/flow) and control wiring a plus
- 5+ years of experience in test or validation engineering, preferably in HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial equipment production.
- Working knowledge of NI LabVIEW, Rockwell Control Logix or similar DAQ/PLC programming
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience presenting to leadership.
