To support our strategic expansion and regional growth, SSM is looking to add a dedicated Project Manager to our team. This pivotal role will be based at our 2234 Portland St SE location in Calgary, Alberta, with a primary mission to manage and facilitate the successful transfer and scale-up of product fabrication to an additional manufacturing facility in the United States.

The ideal candidate will combine strong project management methodologies with hands-on industrial manufacturing experience to coordinate activities across international facilities, engineering teams, and supply chains.

Please note: This role requires up to 50% travel to the US. The successful applicant must possess a valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restriction.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Project Focus

  • Fabrication Transfer Initiative: Act as the primary project leader and coordinator responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing the transfer of designated product fabrication lines, tooling requirements, quality standards, and operational workflows from Calgary to the newly established US manufacturing facility.

Strategic & Project Transfer Coordination

  • Cross-Facility Leadership: Lead and coordinate cross-functional project teams across Calgary and US-based facilities, ensuring clear communication, alignment on milestones, and accountability.
  • Timeline & Resource Management: Develop, maintain, and execute detailed project schedules, resource allocations, and stage-gate milestones for the fabrication transfer process.
  • Process & Tooling Migration: Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Quality Assurance to document, transfer, and validate fabrication processes, equipment requirements, and tooling configurations.
  • On-Site Integration: Spend up to 50% of the time traveling to US manufacturing facilities to oversee installation, testing, staff onboarding, and initial production runs.

Engineering & Production Alignment

  • Prioritization of Activities: Prioritize and drive engineering activities required to support the transfer (e.g., drawing packages, bill of materials, engineering change orders).
  • Cross-Divisional Communication: Communicate and lead transfer initiatives internally with Production, Engineering, QA, Procurement, and Logistics to ensure zero disruption to current customer orders.
  • Quality Assurance Standards: Ensure the US facility is fully aligned with SSM’s high quality, reliability, and testing standards. Coordinate on-site customer witnessed testing if required.

Customer & Operational Excellence

  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify, track, and mitigate project risks (e.g., supply chain bottlenecks, regulatory/cross-border issues, production downtime).
  • Cost Control: Budget tracking and cost control measures related to the transfer project, travel expenses, and facility setup.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate transfer successes and opportunities for improvement to establish a repeatable playbook for future operational expansions.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Experience: 3–5 years of dedicated Project Management experience, ideally leading operational transitions, manufacturing transfers, or facility scale-ups.
  • Industrial Background: Strong background in industrial manufacturing, heavy fabrication, or custom HVAC/air handling systems is highly preferred.
  • Engineering degree or technical diploma with eligibility or membership in APEGA or ASET
  • Applies sound knowledge of engineering principles in the execution of multiple projects
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time, primarily to locations within the United States. Must possess a valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restriction.
  • Project Management Skills: Proven experience managing complex, multi-site projects from initiation to completion, with strong control over budgets, schedules, and resource management.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams across different geographic locations
  • Problem Solving & Negotiation: Strong analytical, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills to address unexpected operational and technical challenges.
