Position Description
As part of Bradford’s development towards sheet metal self-sufficiency an excellent opportunity has arisen for a Machine Programmer in the Bradford Sheet Metal Department reporting to the Sheet Metal Team Leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Write all sheet metal punching programs to ‘nest’ work in the Punch machine
- Write all sheet metal folding programs for the Press Brake machines
- Understand and be able to program the Aluminium CNC machine if required
- Construct, maintain and control a centralised database of machine programs
- To contribute to continuous improvement activities to reduce scrap, changeover time and cycle time and improve material utilisation
- To contribute to problem solving activities to eliminate the cause of errors
- To develop expert knowledge in the operation of the punch and folding machines for the purposes of optimisation, flexibility, tooling selection and maintenance
- To write SOPs and guidance documents to support the operation of the sheet metal machines
- Required to support and stand in for Team Leader when required
- Liaise with both the office and shop floor personnel/departments for problem solving and improvement purposes
- To understand, promote and contribute to the company health and safety, risk assessment and environmental policies within sheet metal and generally
- Actively participate in the company BBS process
Required Education & Qualifications
- The desire to help construct a sheet metal department from scratch with an open mind to new innovative methods and be a mainstay in its long development
- Knowledge and practical experience of sheet metal punch and folding machinery
- Knowledge and practical experience of the programming of sheet metal machinery (specific experience using Amada machinery is not required)
- Evidence of an inquisitive analytical nature and spirit of continuous improvement
- Proven ability to analyse data and logically interpret it for improvement and problem solving purposes
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with employees of all level
- Excellent PC skills
