Position Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated R&D Engineering Technician to join our innovative product development team. This role is a critical, hands-on link between engineering design and manufacturing, responsible for building and testing functional prototypes, refining manufacturing processes, and ensuring our products are designed for real-world serviceability. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a passion for turning engineering concepts into tangible, high-quality products.
Key Responsibilities
This role involves a blend of hands-on fabrication, process refinement, and technical documentation.
- Fabricate, assemble, and rework electro-mechanical prototypes using a variety of tools and techniques
- Operate and maintain lab equipment, including CNC machines, 3D printers, and hand tools for machining and assembly.
- Set up and assist engineering in lab experiments to test and validate new product designs and materials.
- Identify and troubleshoot process issues, providing direct feedback to the engineering team.
- Assist in the design and implementation of fixtures and tooling required for production.
- Participate in design review meetings, providing feedback on serviceability, manufacturability, and ease of assembly.
- Create and maintain clear, detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for assembly and testing.
- Provide hands-on support to the R&D engineering team throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with quality and manufacturing teams to support the transition from prototype to full-scale production.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized R&D lab environment.
Required Education & Qualifications
Required Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as an engineering technician, prototype technician, or a similar hands-on technical role.
- Proven experience with a range of fabrication and machining techniques (e.g., milling, lathing, CNC operation).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documents.
Preferred Experience:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or a related discipline).
- Experience in a formal R&D or new product development environment is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with CAD software (like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) for design review and fixture development.
- Familiarity with creating formal work instructions and technical documentation.
