Position Description

The Accounts Payable Lead reports to the Accounts Payable Manager and gives support by managing the day-to-day operations of the AP department, ensuring accurate invoice processing, timely vendor payments, and adherence to internal controls. They supervise AP staff, resolve complex discrepancies, reconcile accounts, and often drive process improvements to increase efficiency.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise 4-6 AP staff members, which includes and is not limited to hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, career planning and salary recommendations.
  • Manage the day to day operations and workload of the accounts payables team to ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex vendor inquiries and internal discrepancies.
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes of accounts payable, including preparing reports/schedules and performing reconciliations.
  • Ensure adequate internal controls concerning accounts payable processing are in place and functioning as intended and determine new controls or procedures that are consistent with the growth of the company.
  • Maintain work instructions and personal standard work documentation.

Required Education & Qualifications

Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred, but not mandatory

Experience: Previous experience as an AP Specialist or Lead, preference is 3-5 years

Technical Skills:

  • High proficiency in Excel
  • In-depth AP process knowledge
  • Proficiency in SAP is a plus
