Position Description

Scott Springfield by Modine is tier-1 supplier that offers scalable air handling solutions for commercial and industrial customers across North America.  SSM’s leadership team have intentionally created a workplace culture that puts customers first, and values teamwork, innovation and accountability.  SSM has garnered a hard-earned reputation for customer service, quality and reliability. To support its growth, SSM is looking to add a Mechanical Designer to the team.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager - Design, this position is responsible for the electrical and controls design of HVAC air handlers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating detailed wiring diagram and panel layout drawings for air handlers in AutoCAD.
  • Liaising with the mechanical designers to ensure design conformance.
  • Selecting components used for the design of the Scott Springfield product line.  This may include the use of selection software or consultation with vendors to ensure proper component selection for performance and price. Working with supply chain to find alternative components.
  • Researching codes and standards.
  • Updating and maintaining the drawings and internal documentation.
  • Creating and/or updating sequence of operation for the units.
  • Testing unit on the production floor, providing remote site support and willing to go to site for start-up assistance or commissioning of our units.
  • Providing technical assistance in the application and design of mechanical equipment for specific projects.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelors or diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with multiple, changing priorities.
  • Keen attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in problem solving and critical decision making.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming (Carel, Distech and/or Allen-Bradley) is an asset.
  • Eligibility or membership in APEGA or ASET is an asset.
